Hi, hello, hey!
Welcome to my new newsletter, a place to get updates on all things Izzy as it becomes increasingly hard to see the artists we love on instagram and interact with their content. This will be a place where, a couple of times a year, I’ll share updates on what projects I’m working on, any events or workshops I’m giving, discount codes, new products and maybe even sneak peeks.
Summer 2022 … (what I’m up to)
As most of you will know, I returned to full-time freelance in June after a brilliant time Art Directing at Golden Wolf - honestly, they are the loveliest most talented folks, but I felt like I needed to be back in the driver’s seat when it came to selecting work. Here’s a piece from the Weetabix Ad I did with Golden Wolf that I’m proud of:
Since going freelance I’ve been really busy - thanks so much to everyone who has reached out to work with me, it’s calmed my “returning to freelance” worries a great deal and I’m keeping all my fingers crossed that the demand remains … but we all know how temperamental freelance can be.
So what can I tell you about?
I’m currently working on a 30 second animated piece entirely on my own for a client that I’m hoping I can announce soon, or at the latest in the Autumn. It’s a daunting task because I’m animating everything myself too and I’m no animator … or haven’t been for a long time. I’m hoping I can pull it out of the bag! Regardless it’s an exciting little project.
I’m making a return to picture books! After a hiatus of 2 years not drawing picture books I am returning to illustrating. I’ll be beginning work on a new book in September, and have a few other book covers etc in the works.
My own children’s fiction chapter book is out being pitched to publishers - it’s been a long road already, with it being first sent out back in June 2020, but I’m hoping that now I have a full first draft written, a test illustration, plus outlines for the 2nd and 3rd book in the series, that one of the publishers interested will go for it. I love storytelling, I think you all know that, but it’s been really scary putting my writing out into the world because I’m not entirely sure if I’m any good at it, but so far so good.
My short animated film that got rejected for BFI funding last summer is making a comeback whilst we pitch this September for funding in France. I’m keeping everything crossed that this time we get the money because I am so eager to get this story told. I’ve been working on boarding it for the past month and it’s taking a LONG time, but it will be worth it.
It’s all a bit cryptic right now, but hopefully, some of these projects come to fruition before long, and I can share more updates with you. To share something with you all, here’s a cute animated experiment I did last month in an evening, in case you missed it:
Come say hi?
NYCC
In October I’ll be at New York Comic Con as the glamorous assistant to my very talented boyfriend Matt. Whilst I won’t be doing any art stuff myself, I will be around so give me a shout if you’re going to be there too.
Tokyo 2023 - Save the date
For the entirety of January 2023 I’ll be staying in Tokyo completing an Art Residency at Almost Perfect culminating in a gallery show of my work produced whilst I am there. I am hoping to tell a story through my artwork. This residency has been a long time coming as I was originally supposed to do it back in May 2020 - but we all know what happened that year *sigh*. I will be excited to have any Japan-based followers of mine come visit the show at the end of January. Again, give me a shout if you live in Tokyo or will be there during that time.
Rewind to May 2022
Big thanks to everyone who said hi or attended my talk at The Art Department in Berlin in May. I had a great time, it’s always such an inspiring event.
Website re-jig
I had a quick tidy of my website this week, mostly reorganising my navigation that had got messy and confusing. You can check it out on the link below.
“min”
I’ve got a few min books left in my shop for those that would like to own one of the 222 limited edition run from last years Inktober. Can’t wait to have another shot at Inktober this year and improve on my ink skills.
